Ben is an tutor of music based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. He has accumulated a wealth of experience as an educator over the last decade, working in a wide variety of high schools, and sixth form colleges across the North of England, as well as working on a spectrum of community outreach projects with RNCM Engage, Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra, and CHANT Productions. He works as a tutor of Composition, Piano, Theory, and Musicianship at Yorkshire Young Musicians, as well as working as a private tutor of Piano and Composition.
Ben teaches through a person-centred model of education. This approach puts the student at the heart of their own musical development, working with their strengths and interests, whilst creating ‘space’ for students to develop self-awareness, and promote ways to self-remedy other areas of their progress that might appear less intuitive to their current understanding. The intention behind working to a person-centred model of education is to teach in a style that puts a Student’s self-worth, confidence, and ability to self-discipline in equilibrium with the more obvious and expected outcomes of music tuition, such as: high-standard of technical ability, a polished and nuanced music performance/composition style, and an informed understanding of the surrounding cultures and areas of academia that inspire musical practise. Ben believes that allowing the educational ‘space’ to promote positive regard for the Self, and develop the ability to create and execute their own goals are paramount to becoming a successful, psychologically fulfilled, and well-rounded musician/individual.
